Underwood has openly shared her faith from the start of her career.<\/strong>\u00a0She released \u201cJesus, Take the Wheel\u201d as the first single from her debut album. She sings about baptism and being saved in another one of her signature songs, \u201cSomething in the Water.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Through the years, fans have heard Underwood sing faith-based staples such as \u201cSoftly and Tenderly\u201d and \u201cHow Great Thou Art.\u201d She eventually recorded her versions of those songs for her 2021 gospel album,\u00a0My Savior<\/em>.<\/p>\n In addition to the above-mentioned songs,\u00a0My Savior<\/em>\u00a0also included Underwood\u2019s recordings of \u201cNothing but the Blood of Jesus,\u201d \u201cThe Old Rugged Cross,\u201d and \u201cAmazing Grace,\u201d among others.<\/p>\n My Savior<\/em>\u00a0topped both the\u00a0Billboard Top Country Albums<\/em>\u00a0chart and the\u00a0Top Christian Albums\u00a0<\/em>chart after its release.\u00a0It also won the Grammy Award for Best Roots Gospel Album in 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n Underwood performed all 13 songs from\u00a0My Savior<\/em>\u00a0during a special that streamed online on Easter Sunday in 2021. The program was filmed at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.<\/p>\n In addition to sharing her faith in her music, Underwood speaks about her love for Jesus in interviews, during acceptance speeches, on social media, and on TV.<\/strong><\/p>\n During Hollywood Week on the current season of\u00a0American Idol<\/em>, Underwood praised contestants Breanna Nix and IAMKNOWN for singing a cover of \u201cGratitude\u201d by Christian artist Brandon Lake. Underwood teared up as she shared how challenging it can be to be a person of faith in the music industry:<\/p>\n \u201cLadies \u2026 I wanna tell you how difficult it is to come into the entertainment industry and bring your faith with you<\/em>.\u00a0It is a brave thing to do because there are a lot of outside forces that are gonna tell you not to do that. I wanna tell you that I\u2019m proud of you guys.<\/em>\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Underwood got the chance to showcase her faith in front of a massive audience when\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0aired a three-hour \u201cSongs of Faith\u201d special on Easter Sunday this year (2025). The special featured faith-inspired performances from the Top 20 contestants, the judges, special guests, and artist-in-residence Jelly Roll.<\/p>\n When it came time for her to take to the stage, Underwood appeared in a gorgeous glittery gown.<\/p>\n Underwood performed a faithful song she\u2019s quite familiar with by now\u2026\u201dHow Great Thou Art.\u201d Anyone who\u2019s ever heard Underwood sing the beloved hymn knows that the song showcases her at her absolute best.
